Special leave for civil servants
Special leave is granted to civil servants for exceptional reasons arising from their personal situation. Granting of special leave is regulated in the Special Leave Act (SUrlVO) in connection with the relevant implementation regulations.
Upon written application civil servants can be granted special leave for the purpose of undertaking civic duties, for religious, or sporting purposes, for activities connected with trade unions, in order to take a cure as well as for other personal reasons. Other personal reasons include the confinement of a wife or partner as well as the death of a parent, a child, a marital partner or life partner.
Special leave is also granted to tend a sick child under the age of twelve.
These regulations only apply to civil servants employed as academics insofar as the University Leave Act on the basis of Section 97 of the Berlin State Higher Education Act does not otherwise stipulate.
